Nature-based solutions (NBS) offered powerful ways to address environmental challenges, and I found it essential to include them in Education for Environmental Sustainability (EES). Throughout this module, I became more confident and better prepared to embed this topic into my teaching practices.
I explored the role of NBS in education and discovered several European frameworks on sustainability, including useful resources that support NBS education. I also developed important skills for introducing NBS effectively in various teaching contexts.
I learned how NBS can be integrated into both Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and Continuous Professional Development (CPD). I also became familiar with the NBS Learning Scenario for Teacher Training template, which guided my hands-on work during the course. In addition, I explored process-oriented assessment and understood how it can positively influence the learning process.
By completing this module, I:
- Understood the role of NBS in education and explored teaching resources, the GreenComp framework, and other relevant competence frameworks.
- Identified the key skills needed to teach NBS effectively in different educational contexts and reflected on the challenges educators face in developing them.
- Explored ways to integrate NBS into teacher training programs, both in ITE and CPD.
- Gained familiarity with process-oriented assessment methods and learned how to design effective NBS Learning Scenarios for Teacher Training.
